Facial Recognition is an algorithm that is used to identify people by using the uniqueness of their facial structures. As technology advances this form of identification is becoming more accurate. It is to the point now where facial recognition is close to an accuracy of 100%.
Facial Recognition is becoming a more prominent technology in our society. It is being used for all sorts of applications, the newest of those is in the new iPhone X. The iPhone X uses facial recognition to unlock itself and bring you to the home screen, as well as being integrated into multiple other apps inside the phone. There is a large portion of the population that is not comfortable with this new application of the technology. They fear that the technology is not as consistent or accurate as other older forms of identification. Other problems people may have with it are that they think it will be slower or more difficult, or that there is an increased security risk.
This group of people are most likely an older group of people that doesn’t tend to jump onto the newer technology trends, this group’s age range could be quite large ranging from people in their early 20s to people in their mid to late 50s. With such a large age range, it is quite difficult to target the entire audience through one form of communication.
The goal will be to convince our audience that facial recognition technologies have a place in our day to day lives and are the way of the future. The technology has the capability to make our lives easier in many ways, secure access is the main function of the facial recognition on the iPhone X. A lot of people fear the security and confidentiality of the facial recognition on the iPhone X. Apple made sure that the only place the facial record is stored in on the individual device and will never be uploaded to a cloud storage platform. Because the facial record never leaves the phone it would be extremely difficult for a third party to access this data.
To advocate for this technology and its many positive features we will have to target our audience at their most receptive times. Since our audience is comprised mostly of working aged individuals, early in the morning and evening would likely be the most effective times to try and get our message out. Our audience is also less likely to be using newer social media platforms like snapchat and Instagram. We would expect our audience to be using older social media platforms like Facebook and email. Ordinary news sources on T.V. could also be an effective way to reach our audience. By using these broader media platforms we may influence a secondary audience of people that don’t necessarily oppose the new technology, but they just haven’t really been informed about it.
The reason we are advocating for this technology is because it is a stepping stone in technological advancements. Whenever a new technology comes out there is almost always opposition to it. This slows down the development and progression of technology. As more people use it and buy it more development and research will be done for it ultimately leading to more refined and better versions. When people oppose something like this it stagnates the development and means it will take longer for the technology to reach its full potential.
